Midas Capital Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Hideki Yoshimura; hereinafter referred to as “Midas Capital”) has expanded its support framework to enhance the value of its portfolio companies.

On April 1, 2023, Midas Capital has welcomed Goro Asakura—used to be an employee of McKinsey & Company and a partner at YCP Solidiance—as Principal of the newly established Value-Enhancement Team. The team now consists of 10 members in total, including directors with diverse professional backgrounds spanning investment banking, investment funds, consulting firms, and executive roles at startups.

Midas Capital is a private equity fund that invests in and supports a new group of enterprises aligned with its vision.

A defining characteristic of Midas Capital is its exclusive reliance on internally sourced capital contributed by individuals affiliated with the company, without raising external capital. This approach allows the fund not to be restricted from the expiration date, enabling us to pursue the long-term goal of maximizing the total market capitalization of the “Corporate Group” formed with our majority-owned portfolio companies.

As of April 2023, five and a half years since its establishment, the total market capitalization of its majority-owned portfolio companies has expanded from 5 billion yen at the time of establishment to approximately 200 billion yen (of which the fund’s share amounts to approximately 150 billion yen, based on internal capital). With the vision of “building a world-leading corporate group,” Midas Capital is strengthening its operational structure and continuing to provide enhanced support to its portfolio companies.

Goro Asakura (Principal, Midas Capital Inc.)

Goro Asakura is a Principal of Midas Capital Inc. He graduated from the Graduate School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo. Joined McKinsey & Company, Inc. and engaged in mid- to long-term strategy development, new business launches, and operational improvements across industries such as retail and public infrastructure. After helping to establish LOCONDO, Inc., he joined the YCP Group in 2014. As a Director and Partner, he was involved in business strategy development, new business strategy formulation, international expansion strategy, sales organization improvement, HR system review, system implementation across industries including retail, consumer goods, healthcare, telecommunications, manufacturing, and entertainment. Joined Midas Capital Inc. in April 2023 and assumed the role of Principal.

Shun Kobayashi (Director, Midas Capital Inc.)

Shun Kobayashi is a Director of Midas Capital Inc. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tokyo. He joined A.T. Kearney, Inc. and he was involved in management consulting with a focus on the consumer goods industry. In 2015, co-founded Ostance Inc., and served as a board director, focusing on business development and building an organization. In 2019, joined WARC Inc., and served as an Executive Officer, leading the establishment of a recruitment business specializing in start-ups. He later joined Midas Capital Inc. as a Director, focusing on value-up support for portfolio companies, particularly in organizational and recruitment aspects.

Yosuke Yanagio (Director, Midas Capital Inc.)

Yosuke Yanao is a Director of Midas Capital Inc. He graduated from the Faculty of Policy Management at Keio University. Joined Mitsubishi UFJ Bank as a new graduate and involved in corporate finance in addition to the structured finance for small to large enterprises. In 2018, joined Keystone Partners Co.,Ltd., a private equity fund, focusing on M&A and finance activities. After joined Midas Capital Inc., he is working on investment opportunity sourcing, company valuation and due diligence, supporting existing investments, and building relationships with financial institutions as a Director.

Takahisa Kuyama (Director, Midas Capital Inc.)

Takahisa Kuyama is a Director of Midas Capital Inc. He graduated from the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Law, at Keio University. He began his career at Goldman Sachs Japan Co., Ltd., where he worked in the Investment Banking Division’s Advisory Group to engage in M&A advisory services as well as capital-raising activities through equity, debt, and other financial instruments. After joining Midas Capital Inc., he has been working in the Investment Division as a Director with responsibilities including investment sourcing, company valuation, due diligence (DD), contract negotiations, and support for existing portfolio companies.

Midas Capital is a new model of private equity fund established in 2017 with the vision of “building a world-leading corporate group.” It manages mainly two types of funds, run under a partnership system.

1. Flagship Fund

■CEO and Partner: Hideki Yoshimura
Hideki Yoshimura is CEO and Partner of Midas Capital Inc. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tokyo. Founded Valcom Inc. in 2003 while he was an university student. Co-founded AirTrip Inc. in 2007 and served as President and CEO (the companby absorbed and merged VALCOM CO.,LTD..) In 2016, AirTrip Inc. was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers market, and in 2017, it moved to the Tokyo Stock Exchange First Section.
In 2017, He founded Midas Capital Inc. and later became CEO. In the same year, as Midas Capital’s first project, he acquired BuySell Technologies Co., Ltd., later becoming Chairman of the Board. BuySell Technologies was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers market in 2019.

■Managing Director and Partner: Shusuke Terada
Shusuke Terada is Managing Director and Partner of Midas Capital Inc. and also CEO and Partner of Dual Bridge Capital Inc. He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tokyo. Since 2009, he had worked at Citigroup Global Markets Japan Inc., engaging in equity research and financial advisory services, and served as Director and Head of the Real Estate Team. In 2016, joined ZIGExN Co., Ltd. as Director and Executive Officer, CFO, and had led investment strategy with a focus on M&A, financial strategy, market transition to the Tokyo Stock Exchange First Section, and strengthening of the corporate structure. Joined Midas Capital Inc. as a Director Partner in 2020. Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
